Picture yourself with a perfect glass of beer in the cosiest old bar on the canal in Jordaan, one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam. A couple of young women are riding by on their squeaky bikes, laughing. It's a bit windy but the sun is shining and reflecting back from the water surface. Holland's train connections are superb, so you're best off taking a train from the Schiphol airport, no matter whether you are going to Amsterdam or anywhere else in Holland.
There are also Connexxion shuttles running between the airport and hotels in central Amsterdam. Taxi ride to the centre will set you back €40 or so.
