Estonian Air informs about changes in earning SAS EuroBonus points

Starting from 1 June 2013, SAS EuroBonus card holders will earn bonus points only on Estonian Air regular routes that are operated together with Star Alliance partners. As before, points can be burned on all Estonian Air flights and Star Alliance partner airlines’ flights. 

As a result of the change in early June, the owners of the SAS EuroBonus card will earn points on Estonian Air’s Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Trondheim and Brussels routes.

According to Rauno Parras, the CCO of Estonian Air customers can still earn bonus points on the Scandinavian and Brussels routes that are operated in cooperation with partners belonging to Star Alliance. “From one hand, the amendment will let Estonian Air to achieve a significant cost saving. From the other hand there is still a possibility for frequent flyers to earn points on our main business routes.”

“The change is needed to reduce costs in relation to the reconstruction process and reviewing all of our activities and cost items,” added Parras.

All other EuroBonus programme conditions remain the same, including burning the points. In case of code sharing points can be earned either under Estonian Air or Star Alliance partner airlines’ flight code.

Estonian Air carried 168 206 passengers in the first four months

From January to April Estonian Air carried altogether 168 206 passengers, out of which 165 761 on regular flights. In April Estonian Air carried 46 513 passengers, out of which 45 679 on regular flights.

In the first four months last year, Estonian Air carried 224 801 and year before last 168 583 passengers. In April last year, Estonian Air carried 85 644 and year before last 48 427 passengers.

According to Rauno Parras, the CCO of Estonian Air, it is feasible to compare this year passenger numbers with the pre-enlargement period in 2011. The first quarter and April results are in the line of the restructuring plan targets set in the in the beginning of the year,” said Parras.

In the first four months the regularity of Estonian Air flights was 99.5%, an increase of 1.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year. The 15-minute punctuality was 88%, an increase of 5.2 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
In April the regularity and punctuality were 99.9% (97.2% in 2012) and 89.7% (78% in 2012) respectively.

The revenue of Estonian Air rose and loss declined significantly in the first quarter

In the first quarter the revenue of Estonian Air was EUR 16.2 million and net loss 4.9 million. The revenue increased approximately by 5% and loss decreased by 40% compared to the same period last year.

In the first three months, Estonian Air carried 121 700 passengers, which is 13% less than the same period last year.

“Estonian Air started with extensive restructuring process in January and regarding this we have reviewed critically our network and all cost items,” commented Jan Palmér, the CEO of Estonian Air. The results of the first quarter give us confidence of being on a right track with the restructuring– we have succeeded to reduce the loss significantly and at the same time increase revenue with less passengers.”

The aim of the restructuring process is to reach sustainability in Estonian Air operations. “The current developments in our restructuring progress give us hope that Estonian Air will reach the break-even point in core business on a monthly basis at some point during the summer season. The main objective is to reach profitability by the year 2015,” added Palmér.

Estonian Air to renew its service concept from 1 May 2013

Starting from 1 May 2013, Estonian Air introduces changes in pre-flight and in-flight services which concern the number of fare types and selection of on-board food.

From 1 May 2013, Estonian Air offers three basic fare families are: Eco, Flex and Business. The Light fare family - meant for travellers with hand luggage only - remains as a campaign product, which has a lower price but less flexible terms compared to other fare families.

On board all passengers will be offered with a common selection of food and beverages. Passengers with Business and Flex tickets are served complimentary food and beverages. Passengers holding Eco tickets can buy food and beverages on board. Estonian Air also offers a possibility to pre-order meals through Estonian Air homepage at least 36 hours before the flight. Children between the ages of 2 and 11 (inclusive) receive a 25% discount on the basic adult passenger price (i.e. excluding airport taxes and fuel surcharge). Tickets for small children who are less than 2 years of age at the time of their flight and spend the flight on their parent’s lap (without a seat to themselves) are charged at 10% of the adult passenger price.

Estonian Air to change in-flight service and the number of fare families

Starting from 1 May 2013, Estonian Air will introduce several changes in pre-flight and in-flight services which concern the number of fare types and selection of on-board food. From August check-in procedures will be updated.

In January 2013, Estonian Air started an extensive restructuring process to become cost efficient and competitive regional carrier providing flights to the destinations critically important for Estonia, where the demand is constantly high.

“During the first three months we have been focusing on adapting our network to the real economic demand of ten flight destinations and reducing costs in accordance to new flight capacities. Regarding this we have reviewed all the activities and cost items related to our services,” said Rauno Parras, the CCO of Estonian Air.
